ABOUT US

Jerome J. Hake (Jerry Hake) is principal founder, President, Secretary, and Board Member.  Jerry’s motivation for the company mission derives from his experience with Celebration of Inquiry at Coastal Carolina University (CCU) where he was repeating a math class to learn better some subjects he should have learned in a similar class in 1946 after 18 months in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.  In preparation for the Celebration of Inquiry session, Jerry “studied up on” the meaning of science and the scientific method.  He was struck with the observation (already known intuitively) that the scientist should consider all possible causes of an observed effect.  He also learned from his readings on the internet that some so-called scientists were short on data and long on opinions.  This is what drives the Earth Dynamics Climate Modeling, Inc. (EDCMI) mission, which is to get the data that is needed to build a credible climate change model, and then build the model, keep the data updated constantly, and make predictions that can be trusted.

Jerry started school at age five in a one-room country school house in the corner of a farm a half mile from the family farm home.  That was 1932.  Walking to school witholder neighbor students ,Jerry was told that the way to catch a bird or cottontail rabbit was to put salt on their tails, and he wondered if you could put salt on their tails then you must have already caught them.  He wonders now where will all the salt come from to gather up enough scientists, engineers, mathematicians, geologists, computer scientists, and others needed to complete the mission.

Jerry got his B.S. at Georgetown U., School of Foreign Service, Washington, D.C. in June 1949, and his M.S. in Software Systems Engineering at George Mason U. Fairfax, VA in May 1993.

Glenn Smith is a Board Member of EDCMI.  He is a Vietnam War hero, piloting a helicopter gunship, and was cited for valor.  For several years he was Jerry’s Manager at Northrop Grumman in Washington, DC, supporting FAA acquisition of automated systems.  Here is a brief resume/bio.

Mr. Glenn Smith is a Technical Analyst on contract to the FAA.  For the past eighteen years, he has assisted the FAA with the definition and acquisition of automated Air Traffic Control systems.  His specific activities include requirements analysis, safety, testing, and technical auditing.  Prior to his career in support of the FAA, Mr. Smith was a Regular Officer in the US Army for twenty-three years, retiring with the rank of Colonel.  Most of his Army career was spent in Army Aviation.  His final rating in that field was Master Army Aviator.  He was decorated for valor during his two years of combat service in the Vietnam War.  Between his Army career and his current career, Mr. Smith was a helicopter pilot in the oil fields offshore the Louisiana coast.  He holds a BS degree in Agricultural Economics from Virginia Tech.  He also holds a MS degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.

John Skinner is a Senior Security Engineer who has worked for Northrop Grumman and TRW for over 25 years.  He is currently the Security Lead supporting the FAA’s Traffic Flow Management Modernization effort.  He is also supporting the Flight Services programs, such as FS21, which has re-defined the role of the Flight Service Stations.  He has been supporting the FAA since 1999 with the Year 2000 effort.  John achieved the internationally recognized Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) in October 2005.  John majored in physics for his Bachelor’s degree (McDaniel College 1971)and his Master’s degree (Howard University, 1975).  John served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves before retiring with the rank of Captain in 1977.  He currently resides in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Sheel earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Oklahoma.  His dissertation was on “The Effect of Cognitive Style on the Acquisition of Mathematical Concepts Presented through Emphasis on Positive and Negative Instances.”  He also got his B.A. in Mathematics, an M.A. in Mathematics, and M.S. in Computer Science.

Dr. Sheel has taught at Coastal Carolina University (CCU) and at several colleges  At CCU in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences he has served as Chair of the Department of Computer Science, as well as Professor of Computer Science.

He has been instrumental in making the CCU Computer Science Department a world class computer science department, where the Computer Science major with theoretical option is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Dr. Sheel is a member of the following honor societies:  Upsilon Pi Epsilon Computer Science Honor Society (CCU), Sigma Zeta Science & Mathematics Honor Society (CCU), and Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society (University of Oklahoma Chapter).
